Hard drive data recovery is dependent upon more than just the ability to recover physical data from a disk, it requires detailed knowledge of the file system in use and the ability to recover files from within the disk data. Hard disk drives are sophisticated and high precision data storage devices where data is stored at an extremely high density on a platter that is rotating at speeds of up to 15,000 revolutions per minute.

Access to this data is via a set of read and write heads that are mounted on a mechanical arm and which float across the surface of the disk a “hair’s-breadth” above the surface. If there is contact between these heads and the platter then there will be damage and data loss.
