Overview
Still performing its function in the real world, this was the first DLTtape drive with unique, tape loadable firmware, allowing easy updates to the drive's microcode, so that additional capabilities could be added by merely changing software. The same technique also permitted customization to the SCSI interface parameters. Also notable was this drive's use of the advanced linear recording technology, precision tape guiding system, and adaptive control mechanism, all of which were retained in future generations of DLTtape drives.
