IBM TotalStorage 3580 Tape Drive Model L33
Today, data is a key corporate asset in all types of businesses. The ability to access data quickly and reliably is critical to your success. Whether your business utilizes a high-performance network server or individual workstations, archiving and retrieving data in a dependable and consistent manner is mission critical.

The IBM TotalStorage® 3580 Tape Drive—the entry-level IBM TotalStorage tape product family offering—is the answer to growing storage requirements and shrinking backup windows.

By leveraging advanced Linear Tape-Open (LTO) technology, the TotalStorage 3580 Tape Drive is suited for handling the backup, save and restore, and archival data storage needs of a wide range of small systems.

The TotalStorage 3580 Tape Drive Model L33 is an excellent tape storage solution for businesses requiring backup or low-cost, real-time archival of their data within a small window of time—high-capacity and performance
can meet the most demanding requirements.

The new Model L33 has a storage capacity of up to 800GB (with 2:1 compression) in conjunction with the new IBM TotalStorage LTO Ultrium 400GB data cartridge, which is double the capacity of the Ultrium 2 technology.

Along with its higher capacity, the performance of the TotalStorage 3580 Tape Drive has more than doubled over the previous generation for a native data transfer rate of up to 80 MBps.

The TotalStorage 3580 Tape Drive provides an excellent alternative to slower and smaller capacity 1/4-inch, 4 mm and 8 mm DLT/SDLT tape drives.

Advanced features

The IBM TotalStorage 3580 Tape Drive Model L33 features a SCSI Ultra160 Low Voltage Differential (LVD) interface for connection to a wide spectrum of open system servers.

The Model L33 has several new features designed to exceed your most demanding backup and restore needs: a new dual-stage head actuator has been designed to help increase read/write reliability; a
larger internal data buffer helps improve data access rates and reduce cartridge fill and rewind times along with dynamic channel calibration to help increase data throughput; and new independent tape loader and threader motors are designed to help further enhance robustness and reliability.

In addition to reading and writing to LTO Ultrium 3 tape cartridges, the new Model L33 can read and write to LTO Ultrium 2 cartridges and read LTO Ultrium cartridges.
