Hard Drive Data Recovery

Hard drive data recovery is dependent upon more than just the ability to recover physical data from a disk, it requires detailed knowledge of the file system in use and the ability to recover files from within the disk data. SQS’s disk recovery specialists have this knowledge, so whether you have a Windows NTFS file system that is corrupted, a Linux EXT4 file system what will not mount or even an old legacy VMS FILES11 volume you cannot access, SQS will recover your data.

Many of the problems with hard disk drives where data recovery is required are the result of internal mechanical or electronic failures. Hard disk drives are sophisticated and high precision data storage devices where data is stored at an extremely high density on a platter that is rotating at speeds of up to 15,000 revolutions per minute.

Access to this data is via a set of read and write heads that are mounted on a mechanical arm and which float across the surface of the disk a “hair’s-breadth” above the surface. If there is contact between these heads and the platter then there will be damage and data loss.

A failure in the heads themselves or in the mechanism used to align them, or a problem within the drive electronics that control the whole operation can result in data becoming inaccessible and hard disk data recovery being needed.

A hard disk drive, NAS or RAID is just a container into which data can be written and read back, the actual organisation of the data stored is determined by the file system that is being used. Windows systems use NTFS and FAT32 for file storage, and under Linux there is a wide range of file systems available from Ext2 through to UFS and XFS.

Hard disk drive data recovery requires the ability to understand whatever file system is in use and to be able to identify and cope with any problems, for example deleted partition information, or corruptions that exist.

SQS’s hard disk drive data recovery service is founded upon a strong technical understanding of both the hardware and file systems used for file storage. At SQS’s software development lab in the UK near London data recovery utilities are created and tested to give absolute control of the data recovery process.

This means that, once the data from a hard disk or RAID has been secured, it is examined thoroughly by an experienced specialist who can readily identify any problems before any attempts to recover files are made.

This ensures that the data recovery process is undertaken in a controlled and professional manner and that the fullest result will be achieved.
